Gorilla Families in Kahuzi Biega National Park

Gorilla families in Eastern Lowland of Kahuzi Biega National Park in Congo are currently, 9 families and 5 gorilla families are habituated for tracking meaning they are open for visitors every year around. The Park is found in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the western bank of Lake Kivu and DR Congo’s border with the Republic of Rwanda.

Kahuzi Biega National Park is the only roof for the surviving Eastern Lowland Gorillas, which is the biggest gorilla species in the environment. Due to its unique diversity comprised of critically endangered gorilla, birds, and tropical rain forest, Kahuzi Biega National Park was in 1980 qualified as one of the UNESCO world heritage sites every traveler should not miss seeing such an amazing creature in their natural home.

The 5 gorilla families that habituated for trekking are trained to tolerate human presence and such activity is carried out every day of the year and 8 people are allowed to visit each family per day. This means that currently, they are 40 people who visit these gorilla families in their natural state and 1 hour is given to the lucky tracker to see eastern Lowland gorillas face to face

The lowland Gorillas in Congo are peaceful and quiet apes which are bark roar or scream when the need arises. The lowland Gorillas never attack or become aggressive without provocation. From here, we highly advise when you meet them to never provoke them because they are mostly to attack you back.

The lowland gorillas are always live in groups which are called family that are lead by a dominant silverback, the male lowland gorillas fight over females at some time and other males in the family can choose to live as a bachelor in the family before hopefully taking over from the dominant silverback or leave to find mates. The lowland gorilla females are always moving from different families freely throughout their life.

The lowland gorillas they always live on the ground and their diet consists of leaves, stems, fruit, and shrubs, they build a nest using leaves shrubs and tree branches and Juveniles and females sometimes build their nests on top of trees. And they always spend their day grooming, climbing, swinging on treetops and playfully chasing each other

The Lowland gorillas have browner coats with the silver coat on the back of the male. This is small slightly small compared to the mountain gorillas. Low land gorillas are mobile than the mountain gorillas because their habitats spread over large areas.

The male Lowland Gorillas has more compared to the females and their intelligence is more advanced. This low land gorilla has the courage to learn sign language compared to Mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park

The Democratic Republic of Congo has the highest number of lowland gorillas and provides a unique chance to view this rare endangered species in their natural environment. More interesting Congo, the country has the most convenient place to track lowland gorillas and the country is relatively peaceful compared to last year’s. Tourists can trek the Eastern lowland gorillas in either Kahuzi Biega National Park or the Western lowland gorillas at Maiko National Park. Kahuzi-Biega National Park is the only place where one can track Eastern lowland gorillas.

The gorilla permit in lowland gorillas of Kahuzi Biega National Park costs $ 400.00 per person per trek and there are 5 gorilla families in Kahuzi Biega National Park which habituated for gorilla trekking. Each family visited 8 people per day per trek making it 40 lowland gorilla permits sold every day in total. A gorilla permit ties up with Park entrance, ranger guide and one hour with this gentle giant face to face in their wild. One must be above 15 years-of-age to do gorilla trekking in Congo.
