Mount Nyamuragira is an active mountain that situated in the southern sector of Virunga National Park in Mikeno sector- Congo approximately 25 kilometers away of the north of Lake Kivu 14 Kilometer from Nyiragongo mountain and about 2-hour drive from Rumangabo the Park Headquarters

mount nyamuragira eruptingNyamuragira Mountain is also known as Mount Nyamulagira and is famous for its the high number of the eruption of about 34 times since 1882, this makes it the most active volcano in Africa Nyamuragira Mountain that produces lava flows from fissures in the flanks of the volcano and the volume of 500 cubic Kilometer with extensive lava flows that come from the volcano blanket 1500 square kilometer of Rift. This has been searched on that other lava flows having moved about 30 kilometers from the summit.

Mount Nyamuragira is a magical wonder that occupied with beautiful serenity of Virunga National Park and stands over 3058 meters above the sea level that takes about 4 hours to reach on top of the summit although is still Active Mountain up to date.

Mount Nyamuragira has again its popularity from different researchers who come from different countries to study active volcanoes. However, is not open to tourist due to different reasons that have undertaken to be closed to tourist attraction although some hiker has experienced this activity with Mount Nyamuragira and others can also do on request basis either accept or denied depending on situation within the mountain. The insecurity within the mountain is a major reason why it’s not open for tourist attraction. It has been said that mount Nyamuragira hosts different rebels both from Congo and Rwanda that caused insecurity within the mountain. The hiking trails are in poor condition that not favors the hiker to do their activities.

According to the research, Mount Nyamuragira and Nyiragongo will erupt again a few years to come and this has limited the expansion of Goma town due to the fact that they will destruct the infrastructure and cause human life death as likely in 2002, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014 In this very year, the lava lake was formed at the Nyamuragira Mountain with a depth of 500 meters making it the newest formed lake after the last formed lava lake in 1938
