Hiking Mountain Visoke Rwanda

Mount Visoke is famously known as Bisoke Mountain that lies at the border of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Bisoke Mount is an extinct volcano that stands at 3711 meters above the sea level.

Mount Visoke is part of the 8 volcanoes that make up the Virunga ranges that stretches along the way from Congo, Uganda, and Rwanda. Bisoke it’s self-located both in Rwanda in Volcano National Park and Virunga National Park where the peak lies in Rwanda. The name Bisoke drove from the local language meaning “soaked with water”

The steep slopes of Mount Visoke are dense with rainforest and the summit is covered with Crater Lake and fog, the slopes harbor numerous wildlife species and mountain gorillas, hiking to the top of mountain Visoke you have a chance to spot habituated mountain gorillas, and also the primate species including golden monkey, blue colobus, red tile money and so on.

The mountain has a lot to offer and to do while at your safari in Rwanda or Congo including mountain gorilla tracking. Mountain gorilla trekking is the most done activity within Volcano and Virunga National Park where mount Bisoke found

Hiking Mount Bisoke takes you 4 hours to reach on top of the mountain where you pass through dense rainforest, bamboo forest, and bush vegetation as you reach to the summit. The climbing gives you an opportunity to see wildlife mammals, some rare tree species, bird species and primate species along the trail.

While here, you still have a chance to see Lake Ngezi situated within mount Bisoke. The descending down to the starting point takes about 2 hours. Hiking Visoke Mountain takes you 1 day that requires some physical fitness.

Visit Lake Ngezi at Mount Bisoke just 11 kilometers away to the summit that takes you 3 hours hike to the lake and 1 hour back to the starting point, thou the hiking time may reduce due to someone’s peace. Lake Ngezi trail harbors numerous bird species and wildlife animals, bird lovers this is a great place for you to explore different species including Albertine birds and water birds and among others.

Visiting Bisoke Mountain can be done either in Rwanda or Congo depending where your preference and this done every day all year round. However, the dry season is the best time to climb Bisoke Mountain since the walking trail is dry and less slippery, reaching the summit with clear clouds and the craters are full of fog that goes in the month of December to February and June to September.
