Day 1: 3 days Rwanda primate safari to Nyungwe National Park, 6hours’ drive

Have an early morning breakfast, after, meet your Rwanda guide to be oriented about your 3 days Rwanda primate safari. Leave afterwards for Nyungwe in the south, from Kigali capital about 6 hours’ drive with en-route stop visit at Huye to explore the ethnographic museum, lunch at Butare. After lunch, drive to the park while enjoy the countryside breathtaking view of rolling hills, Lake Kivu among others.

Arrive early, relax and later you will be participating in a 2 hours canopy walk experience. The canopy walk in Nyungwe NP is the first of its kind in East Africa and offers amazing view of diverse primates including the red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, plus birds.

Enjoy early morning cup of an African tea/coffee at the lodge, after, briefing will be done either at Uwinka or Cyamudongo reception. Get to know the rules and regulations to observe while on primate tracking or chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest National Park and at exactly 8:00am, set off to look for park’s diverse primates.

You will be led by a park guide and the important species of primates to expect to come across while on primate safari include chimpanzees, l’hoest monkeys, hamlyn’s monkeys, dent’s mona monkeys, Angola colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, baboons, grey cheeked mangabeys etc. On a primate walk, you will be learning how chimps and other primates feed, their copulating behaviors among other characteristics.
