Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi Biega Park

Overview

Kahuzi Biega National Park offers an amazing experience all year long: hiking with Eastern Lowland Gorillas. There are two completely habituated groups of eastern lowland gorillas in the park that may be tracked at any time. The guidelines for hiking with eastern lowland gorillas are comparable to those for mountain gorillas. Gorilla tourism in the Congo is only concerned with tourist safety, conservation, and preservation. Porters, armed rangers, trackers, and professional guides accompany tourists to the gorilla families’ habitats.

Gorilla groups are assigned and given a briefing before the trekking adventure starts. After being transported to the Kahuzi Biega National Park headquarters, visitors join other hikers for a formal orientation on trekking regulations. The safety precautions intended to safeguard both tourists and gorillas for long-term conservation are highlighted throughout the briefing. The walk formally begins at 7:00 am after hikers are divided into groups of eight and allocated to a gorilla family.

Depending on where the gorillas are, the trip often takes two to three hours, although the actual encounter only lasts an hour. To truly appreciate this unique occasion, guests should maintain composure, alertness, and calmness. During this period, visitors see moms tending to young children, silverbacks protecting their groups, and amusing exchanges. In order to allow guests to responsibly take unforgettable photos, camera flashes must be turned down.

A gorilla permit is required in order to engage in gorilla trekking at Kahuzi Biega National Park. At $400 per person each trip, the permit is now the most economical way to witness eastern lowland gorillas in their native habitat while contributing to conservation efforts.

While trekking with lowland gorillas is feasible all year round, June, July, August, September, October, December, January, and February are the best months. Trekking conditions are more comfortable at these times since there is less rainfall, routes are easier to access, and the slopes are less slick.

Congo’s eastern area is becoming more and more popular with tourists and is regarded as a safe tourism destination. This region offers some of Africa’s most remarkable and fulfilling vacation experiences due to its abundance of animals and natural beauty.
