Detailed itinerary of the 14 Days Rwanda Gorilla and Wildlife Safari
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly received by our professional tour guide, who will transfer you to your hotel in Kampala. If you arrive early, you will enjoy a guided city tour of Kampala, exploring its key attractions before heading to your hotel. Later, you will check in for dinner and an overnight stay at Kampala Serene Hotel, Sheraton Hotel, or Cassia Lodge.
After breakfast, your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala and begin the journey north through the historic Luweero Triangle, once a major battleground in the early 1980s. You will make a lunch stop in Masindi Town before continuing to the spectacular Murchison Falls. On arrival, enjoy a guided hike to the top of the falls, where you will be rewarded with stunning views and, if lucky, a beautiful rainbow.
Dinner and overnight stay at Paraa Safari Lodge, Sambiya River Lodge, or Red Chili Rest Camp.
After an early breakfast, set off for a morning game drive in the northern sector of the park. This is a great opportunity to search for members of the Big Five, including lions, elephants, and buffaloes, and with some luck, elusive leopards. Other wildlife commonly seen includes Rothschild giraffes, warthogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, and several antelope species.
Return to the lodge for lunch, then in the afternoon enjoy a scenic three-hour launch cruise on the Nile River. The cruise takes you close to the base of Murchison Falls and offers excellent views of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and many animals gathered along the riverbanks. Keen birders may also spot the rare shoebill stork and a variety of other bird species.

After breakfast, begin your journey south through Hoima toward Fort Portal, a scenic town set beneath the legendary Mountains of the Moon. The drive takes about eight hours, passing through beautiful countryside and rural landscapes. You will arrive in Fort Portal in the late evening and check in at your lodge for rest and relaxation.

Enjoy an early breakfast before setting off to explore the Semliki hot springs, followed by a visit to the pygmy communities near the Ituri Rainforest. This village visit offers a rich and authentic cultural encounter, giving you insight into traditional lifestyles and customs. Lunch will be arranged as a picnic, allowing you to savor the true spirit of Africa in a natural setting.

After breakfast, proceed to Kibale Forest National Park, renowned for having the highest concentration of primates in East Africa. The park is home to 13 primate species, with chimpanzees being the most famous as our closest relatives. Kibale Forest shelters about 1,450 chimpanzees, making it Uganda’s largest population of this endangered species, and it is also home to the rare L’Hoest’s monkey.
Return to the lodge for lunch, then in the afternoon head out for a guided nature walk in Bigodi Swamp. During the walk, you will spot various primates and a wide range of bird species. Bigodi Swamp is regarded as a birding paradise due to its rich and diverse birdlife.

After breakfast, depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park, driving through the historic town of Kasese with scenic views of the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon. Upon entering the park, enjoy a game drive en route as you head toward Mweya. Later, take a guided nature walk in Maramagambo Forest, where you will go primate tracking and visit the bat cave and the Blue Lake.
Dinner and overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge, Simba Safari Camp, or Ihamba Safari Lodge.
After a hearty breakfast, head out for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains, one of the best wildlife viewing areas in the park. Look out for lions, buffaloes, elephants, leopards, Uganda kobs, various antelope species, spotted hyenas, and if you are fortunate, the elusive giant forest hog.
Return to the lodge for lunch, then in the afternoon enjoy a scenic launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel. This relaxing boat safari brings you remarkably close to wildlife, with hippos surfacing and spraying just beside the boat and buffaloes grazing along the water’s edge. The channel shores are also rich in birdlife, including pink-backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle-billed storks, and many other species.
After this rewarding experience, enjoy a gentle drive back to the lodge.
Dinner and overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge, Simba Safari Camp, or Ihamba Safari Lodge.
Travel through the scenic Kigezi Highlands, often called the Switzerland of Africa, with its rolling terraced hills and winding roads. Continue via the Ishasha sector, where you may spot the famous tree-climbing lions, before arriving at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the evening.
Dinner and overnight stay at Gorilla Safari Lodge or Mahogany Springs.
Enjoy an early breakfast before 8:00am, then transfer to the ranger station for a detailed briefing and instructions for the day’s activity. After the briefing, you will be led into the forest by experienced and armed ranger guides to begin the search for the mountain gorillas.
The trek takes you deep into the forest, moving through dense vegetation, thick vines, and natural undergrowth as you follow the gorillas’ trail. The duration of the trek varies, as it depends on the gorillas’ movements while feeding or resting, and may last anywhere between 2 and 9 hours. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend a full hour observing them at close range, watching their social interactions and behaviors, and capturing photos or videos.
After the trek, return to your lodge to relax, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at Gorilla Resort, Gorilla Mist Camp, or Nkuringo Gorilla Camp.
You will drive to Lake Bunyonyi and spend the night overlooking Uganda’s deepest lake. Here, you may enjoy activities such as paddling a traditional dugout canoe or tasting fresh local crayfish.

Early in the morning, set off on a scenic three-hour drive to Lake Mburo National Park, passing through the picturesque Kabale region, often referred to as the Switzerland of Africa for its rolling hills and highland scenery. Enjoy a lunch stop in Mbarara town before continuing to the park via the Nshara Gate. On arrival, take part in a relaxing boat cruise on Lake Mburo, where you may spot hippos, crocodiles, and other wildlife along the shores.

After breakfast, begin your drive to Kampala, arriving around 3:00 pm. Continue onward to Jinja to visit the Source of the Nile, with a lunch stop at the Equator en route. After the visit, proceed to Jinja for dinner and an overnight stay at Nile Anchors Palace, Jinja Nile Resort, Haven Lodge Resort, or Haven Lodge.
After breakfast, you will go for the whole day rafting trip along the River Nile. You will be provided with all the necessary equipment and training needed for the activity. All white water rafting activity is open to people aged 16 and above. After the raft, transfer back to Kampala where drop off will be at your Hotel in Kampala or at the airport for your flight back home
