Detailed itinerary of the 8 days Rwanda safari
Your Rwanda tour guide will meet you at the airport and brief you on the general 8-day safari after you’ve landed in Rwanda. Then, after you’ve decided where to stay for the night, whether it’s a cheap, mid-range, or luxury hotel in Kigali Capital, it’s time to relax and enjoy some refreshments.
After a leisurely breakfast, it’s time to leave Kigali and make the two- or three-hour trip to Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda, also known as the country of a thousand hills. A sprawling savanna park spanning up to 1,122 square kilometres, Akagera is unique among Rwanda’s parks and is among the largest in East Africa. The park is home to a wide variety of animals, including rare ones like zebras, bush bucks, birds, Masai giraffes, water bucks, and rhinos, as well as more common ones like leopards, lions, buffaloes, elephants, and rhinos.
After you’ve settled into your lodgings, take some time to rest before setting out on a morning game drive in search of the big five in Akagera. After spending two or three hours watching the game, head back to your hotel for lunch . In the afternoon, go on a boat ride on Lake Ihema. Unwind in the evening, sip on some cool beverages, and call it a night at your campsite or lodging.
After a hearty breakfast on the third day of the eight-day Rwanda safari, your trip leader will pick you up and take you to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Make a lunch stop in Huye on the way, then continue on to the southern part of Rwanda early to check into your lodging in Nyungwe Forest National Park.
After a hearty breakfast on the fourth day of your eight-day Rwanda safari, head to Uwinka reception to meet with a park ranger for a training on the regulations for trekking with chimpanzees. It will take two to four hours, including an hour of close encounter, to find a habituated chimpanzee colony in Nyungwe Forest via the Uwinka area.
After a rejuvenating lunch in Nyungwe Forest National Park, Rwanda, you’ll be ready to depart your lodge for a two-hour canopy walk in the afternoon. The opportunity to see birds and primates up close makes this an unforgettable adventure.
Drive to the Volcanoes National Park Musanze Area from Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda’s south. When you arrive, check into your lodging for the night. Don’t miss the breathtaking views of the undulating hills and Lake Kivu.

Take it easy and have breakfast as you begin the sixth day of your eight-day Rwanda safari. The centrepiece of this 8-day safari vacation in Rwanda is going gorilla trekking, so make sure to join the other guests for a briefing on the subject. After your briefing at the Kinigi visitor center at 8:00 in the morning, you will set out on your 2- to 6-hour hike through the park’s bamboo forest in search of mountain gorillas.
Every single person will get at least one hour of face-to-face time with wild mountain gorillas. After you’ve had your fill of the breathtaking scenery, return to the resort to collect your gorilla certificate and make arrangements for your cultural safari in Iby’Iwacu Village.
Start your day with a hearty breakfast before leaving Volcanoes National Park for Lake Kivu, a freshwater lake shared by Rwanda and the Congo. Take a boat ride around the lake and take in the breathtaking scenery as you stop at the hot springs and the island. Then head back to your campsite for the night.
