3 Days Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking Tour – Brief Itinerary

  • Day 1: Transfer from Kampala/Entebbe to Kibale Forest National Park
  • Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi Wetland walk
  • Day 3: Departure to Kampala or Entebbe

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park After breakfast at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe, begin the scenic drive west to Kibale Forest National Park via Mityana, Mubende, and Fort Portal (approximately 5–6 hours). Enjoy interesting stopovers, including the historic Nakayima Tree in Mubende and lunch in Fort Portal, the capital of the Toro Kingdom.

Before reaching your lodge, visit the fascinating Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru caves, known for their impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and cultural legends, followed by views of the nearby crater lakes. Arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon for dinner, relaxation, and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetland Walk Rise early for breakfast and transfer to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for registration and a briefing on chimpanzee tracking guidelines. At 8:00 am, set out into the forest with an experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority guide to track a habituated chimpanzee community. Tracking usually takes between 30 minutes and 3 hours. Once located, you spend a full hour observing the chimpanzees in their natural habitat – watching them feed, interact, and move through the canopy.

Return to the lodge for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, renowned for its rich birdlife (including the papyrus gonolek and Great Blue Turaco) and additional primate species such as L’Hoest’s monkeys, black-and-white colobus, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Departure After breakfast, check out and begin the return journey to Kampala or Entebbe (approximately 5–6 hours), with a lunch stop en route. Upon arrival you may enjoy a short city orientation if time allows before being dropped at your hotel or next destination – end of your memorable 3-day Kibale chimpanzee trekking tour.
