Gorilla Trekking Rules and Regulations in Congo

Congo Gorilla trekking Rules and Regulations were put up to conserve the largest Apes on the earth (Gorillas) in their natural environment in Virunga and Kahuzi Biega National Park. Virunga National Park is home to mountain gorillas with astonishing biodiversity that has boosted tourism in Congo. Kahuzi-Biega National Park host the low land gorillas in dense lowland rainforest, Afro-montane forests, with bamboo forests, and some small areas of sub-alpine prairies strategically located in the eastern part of Congo.

The Parks are UNESCO world heritage sites that are legal status and managed by the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN) that pattern with other organizations in order to conserve this rare endangered species for the future generation such as WWF, AWF, GD, WCS, and among other an organization that come up with the following rules and regulation to be followed while tracking gorillas in either Virunga and Kahuzi Biega National Park in Congo.

A maximum of 8 trekkers per family are allowed to track habituated gorillas per day in either Virunga or Kahuzi Biega National Park

A child below 15 years old are not allowed to track gorillas

Keep 7 meters distance away while watching gorillas

The sick people are not allowed to track gorillas just because gorillas are likely influenced by human disease

Always trackers should keep their voice as low as they can as you feel free to ask questions to your park guide

You’re not allowed to smoke, drink and eat in the presence of the gorillas

A maximum of 1 hour you have with gorillas during tracking experience whereas a maximum of 4 hours you have with gorillas during habituation experience.

Always hold your hand to your mouth and turn away from the gorillas while coughing.

Avoid touching the gorillas just because they are wild you never what they will behave

Avoid leaving rubbishing within the Park

Always keep your flash camera off while taking photos

Avoid scattering while you are near the gorillas.

Avoid direct eye contact with gorillas sometimes they move out of control

Always respect the instructions from your park guide carefully

Always wash your hands before you start gorilla trekking.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions from your park guide, for example, you want to go to the toilet, he will advise you accordingly
