Rwanda’s Promotional Gorilla Permits Extended Until The End of 2023

Rwanda, one of the top safari destinations for meeting face-to-face with the mountain gorillas in their natural habitats never ceases to excite travelers interested in seeing the Giant Apes for the first time or repeatedly. With thousands of visitors making trips to Volcanoes National Park in the Northern Province to see the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills has become popular among primate lovers, conservationists, and researchers alike. However, like most countries, Rwanda’s tourism greatly suffered from the effects of COVID-19 and related restrictions that saw visitor numbers drop to zero at some point. The country officially re-opened for tourism in June 2020 with special offers on Gorilla Permits for certain visitor categories and these had initially ended in December 2022.

Due to the Rwanda Development Board’s commitment to supporting the recovery of the country’s tourism industry, the special promotional offer was then extended to 31st December 2023. This is done to allow the industry to pull through from the negative effects of the pandemic and resultant restrictions hence bringing about development.

The promotional Gorilla Permits offer was extended to specific visitor categories that include Rwandan Nationals, East African Citizens, Foreign resident travelers, Africans, African Foreign Residents, and MICE Travelers. Also, these permits have to be booked at least one month prior to the intended trekking date and if you don’t adhere to this condition, then be prepared to pay the normal rate of $1500 per person per trek.
